Metzorah

This week’s parsha, Metzora, continues the discussion of physical ailments of skin and home and their spiritual remedies. A Midrash understands the word used for someone with this affliction, מְּצֹרָ֔ע, as an acronym for מּוֹצִיא שֵׁם רָע, to find or extract a bad name. With this understanding, we see a person who is struggling to get out of a negative cycle. Thus, the prescribed remedy makes sense; the person needs to finding solitude and reconnecting to themself. When they are ready to come back, they offer two birds, a symbol of being ready to sing a new tune, to speak with joy and authenticity. Our words can build or destroy worlds. How can we bring more mindfulness into our speech?
