Chukat
This week, the Israelite people are without water in the wilderness. G!d commands Moshe and Aaron to speak to the rod in order that the rock may flow with water. Listen, you rebels, shall we get water for you out of this rock? And, in his frustration, Moshe strikes the rock twice with the staff. Copious water emerged, but G!d was not pleased, sayingיַ֚עַן לֹא־הֶאֱמַנְתֶּ֣ם בִּ֔י לְהַ֨קְדִּישֵׁ֔נִי לְעֵינֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לָכֵ֗ן לֹ֤א תָבִ֙יאוּ֙ אֶת־הַקָּהָ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה אֶל־הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥תִּי לָהֶֽם׃Because you did not trust Me enough to affirm My sanctity in the sight of the Israelite people, therefore you shall not lead this congregation into the land that I have given themHow can we be trusting in our most worn down and exhausted moments so that we can treat every living thing as the image of G!d?
